Bullet First Scottish success for fostering certificate 18 Mar 2008
  Ian Meredith, a foster carer for Moray Council, today became the first Scottish carer to complete the Akamas Level 3 BTEC Certificate ‘ Advanced Skills in Foster Care’, which is now being used by more than 20 Scottish authorities. Ian has been studying since March 2007 and says the course has increased his confidence and enabled him to reflect on his practice. He says he will miss the training, but already has his sights on a Level 4 qualification with Akamas if circumstances allow.

Bullet New induction/foundation programme launched 10 Mar 2008
  In partnership with other respected training organisations, Akamas today launched a new training solution for the children and young people’s workforce. Comprising a range of accessible online courses combined with workbooks, certificates and mapping to relevant standards, the programme allows employers to enjoy the accessibility of e- learning with the accountability of in-house training. Bullet Akamas website updated 13 Feb 2008
  The Akamas website has been revised and updated to include information about the exciting Induction and Foundation training that will be released in March this year. The main navigation bar has also undergone some changes to reflect our growing market.

Bullet Brian and Kate Cairns in IFCO double act 21 Nov 2007
  Brian and Kate Cairns, our Academic Director and Training Director respectively, were in fine form at this year’s conference of the International Foster Care Organisation in Malta. Kate’s workshop on attachment and trauma was well received; while Brian shared with delegates the experience Akamas has gained of using e- learning to develop carers’ practice.
