LEVEL 3 NVQ: HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE (CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE)
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Level 3 NVQ programme for foster care, incorporating the content and learning approach of our acclaimed 'Advanced Skills in Foster Care' BTEC qualification.
Why NVQ? Why now?
As you know, the NVQ will be replaced in due course with qualifications that will fit the new national academic and vocational framework. But in the meantime NVQ is the only fully transferable qualification open to foster carers. By basing our NVQ on a respected learning programme, we give our learners the best possible opportunity to move smoothly to the new framework.
Background
In 2005 Akamas developed the online Level 3 BTEC Certificate 'Advanced Skills in Foster Care' in partnership with BAAF. With more than 750 students registered on the two year course, an impact evaluation in January 2009 showed outstanding satisfaction from foster carers and providers. The qualification has now been upgraded to BTEC Diploma status.
In 2008 Akamas developed, in partnership with other training providers, an online Short Course programme. This provided short courses that enable students to create a portfolio mapped to standards. The feedback from employers and thousands of course completers was excellent, and the programme formed the basis of our online Short Course Programme which is continuing to develop and grow.
The Akamas NVQ
Our new Level 3 NVQ programme combines the strengths of the Level 3 BTEC and the Short Course programme. It provides online modular delivery of knowledge from our BTEC course, proven to develop understanding, practice and outcomes in foster care. And it enables students to prepare a portfolio of evidence for NVQ that is also fully mapped to CWDC standards.
Over the years we have built an expert Academic Team, so you can have confidence that our assessment process is rigorous and appropriate to foster care. To date, all of our programmes have been awarded straight 'A's by external verifiers and we aim to ensure our NVQ centre and programme, with the full support of Edexcel, meets the same exacting standards.
